How to Repair a Scratch in Brazilian Cherry Floor

Scratches in a Brazilian cherry floor upset the natural flow of the wood and create an eyesore depending on where the scratches are located. For light scratches, a stain marker that matches the original flooring color may do the trick. For deeper scratches that expose the raw wood under the finish, you'll need to apply a putty into the scratch. You also have the option of replacing the scratched board, although this can be difficult depending on how the floor is secured to the subfloor.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact your flooring manufacturer and inquire whether they have scratch-repair kits available for your Brazilian cherry flooring. Many manufacturers have these kits available for purchase either directly through them or at select retailers.

    • 2

Color the scratch with the closest matching stain marker or stain you can find if the flooring manufacturer doesn't have repair kits available. Many stain manufacturers make stain markers, or you can purchase a small can of stain that matches your floor. Use this method only if the scratch is a surface scratch.

    • 3

Fill the scratch with a closely matching wood putty if the scratch goes down to the raw wood. Allow the putty to set as directed on the instructions.

    • 4

Color over the putty with a touch-up marker if the putty doesn't match properly.
