How to Remove a Slip Strip From Hardwood

Placing slip strips or anti-sliding strips on your hardwood floors or stairs is an excellent way to avoid unwanted accidents in your home. However, the strip removal process can be a tedious and time-consuming task. These strips are extremely hard to remove after they are applied and often leave hardwood floors or stairs with a sticky residue. Instead of calling in expensive professionals to remove slip strips from your wood, use a do-it-yourself removal method to get the job done without paying a small fortune.

Instructions

    • 1

Blow warm air onto the strip using a blow dryer set to a medium setting. Blow the air for approximately one minute.

    • 2

Apply enough spray lubricant to the slip strip to thoroughly lubricate the area. Allow the lubricant to sit on the strip for two to three minutes.

    • 3

Slide a dull plastic scraper under the edge of the strip. Pull the strip up as you slide the scraper between the strip and the wood. Continue this process until the strip is removed in its entirety.

    • 4

Combine 1/4-cup dish detergent with 1/4-cup lukewarm water in a small bowl.

    • 5

Dip a sponge into the bowl to absorb some of the soapy mixture. Squeeze the sponge to remove excess moisture.

    • 6

Pat the dampened sponge onto any sticky residue that was left behind from the slip strip. Slide a dull plastic scraper across the sticky residue.

    • 7

Remove the soapy mixture from the hardwood with a damp rag.

    • 8

Wipe away any remaining moisture with a clean, lint-free towel.
