Removing Hair Color From a Wood Surface

You want your hair coloring to seep into your hair but not necessarily anything else around you. Unfortunately, a hair coloring mishap can result in a dye stain on your wooden floors or wood countertop. While these stains are difficult to remove, you can still lift hair dye from porous wood surfaces if you have the right materials and if you act quickly. The longer you wait, the more the hair coloring sets into the wood surface and becomes almost impossible to remove.

Instructions

    • 1

Immediately apply warm water to the stained area. Next, apply a dab of liquid dish soap to a soft sponge and begin scrubbing. Work in circular motions until you lift the stain. If the stain remains, move on to Step 2.

    • 2

Mix baking soda and vinegar in a small mixing bowl. Add baking soda first and then slowly add vinegar until the mixture has a paste-like consistency.

    • 3

Apply the baking soda-vinegar mixture over the stained area. Allow the mixture to soak into the wood for at least 15 minutes.

    • 4

Scrub the area in circular motions with a sponge. Continue scrubbing until the stain lifts. This may take multiple applications of the baking soda-vinegar mixture.
