How to Get Rid of Warps in Laminate Wood Floors

Laminate wood floor is a durable material, but when warped planks in the floor occur, they can't be saved. Warping could happen when the plank absorbs too much moisture. It also could be because no space is allowed for the plank to expand and contract with temperature changes. If you have damaged planks near the edge of the room, you might be able to replace them yourself. Otherwise, contact the manufacturer or the installer for professional help.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the replacement laminate planks in the room where they will be installed 72 hours ahead of time to let them acclimate to the room conditions.

    • 2

Hold a nail punch directly on top of a nail head on the baseboard trim at the corner of the room. Pound the hammer on the nail punch, driving the nail all the way through the trim. Wedge a pry bar behind the baseboard and pull it away from the wall. Use the pry bar to remove the baseboard along the edge of the room closest to the damaged laminate plank.

    • 3

Remove the laminate floor plank by plank. Laminate floor is a floating floor, which means that no glue attaches it to the subfloor underneath. The planks can be easily removed by pulling them out one by one. Continue until the warped planks are reached and removed.

    • 4

Replace the damaged planks with the new planks and reassemble the planks as before.

    • 5

Replace the baseboard trim against the wall and drive finishing nails through it to reattach it to the wall.
