Fortunately, the method for repairing any scratches on your floor is relatively cheap and straightforward.

Instructions

  1. Light Scratches

    • 1

Examine the depth of scratches in your Brazilian cherry wood flooring. If the damage is limited to the layer of shellac that protects your floor, you can simply apply a new coat. This will even out any scratches on your flooring's surface.

    • 2

Gently rub the affected area with fine-grade sandpaper to remove the rough edges of any scratches.

    • 3

Apply a thin coat of shellac over the scratches on your floor and allow it dry. Use the same shellac product you originally used to seal your floor. If the scratches are still visible after your shellac has dried, apply another coat.

    Deeper Scratches

    • 4

Purchase a purpose-made cherry wood floor filler or putty if the scratches have penetrated to the wood below your protective layer of shellac. Contact your flooring's manufacturer in the first instance to ask if they provide a filling compound designed specifically for your flooring. If they don't, contact your local hardware store or go online to find filler that matches the color of your floor.

Sand the affected area lightly with a fine sandpaper.

    • 6

Apply filler to a small area of your affected floor as per the manufacturer's instructions and allow it to dry. Most fillers can be applied with a scraper. You should wipe off any excess filler or putty with a damp cloth once you've filled the imperfections. If you're happy with the color match, proceed to fill the rest of your scratches. If the color doesn't look right, search for an alternative product that matches the color of your floor more closely.
