How to Replace Damaged Laminate Planks in the Middle of the Floor With Two-Floor Laminate

Murphy's Law dictates that the center of your laminate flooring will be the first area to get damaged. Replacing damaged floor planks is a relativity straightforward task, especially if they happen to be close to a wall. The process of replacing boards in the middle of a room is no more difficult but requires a little more work. To do so, you need to disassemble your floor from the nearest wall up to the damaged boards.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify the wall closest to the planks that need to be replaced.

    • 2

Remove any wall molding or skirting board from the wall closest to the damaged planks, using a pry bar, and put these aside.

    • 3

Remove the cork expansion-gap strips between your flooring and your wall. You can do this by hand.

    • 4

Pull the first row of laminate floorboards closest to your wall apart. Then continue across the floor until you reach the damaged planks. You'll need to remove wall moldings and expansion cork along other stretches of any walls that are affected as you work. Place the boards you remove against a wall in the order that you take them up. This will make replacing them a lot easier.

    • 5

Remove the damaged planks and discard them. Then install the new boards in their place.

    • 6

Replace the rest of your flooring, using a tapping block and hammer to secure the boards. Use plastic spacers to recreate an expansion gap as you go.

    • 7

Refit the expansion cork strips, and replace any wall moldings or skirting boards.
