Before using ColorFill, carefully clean the area with a cleaning solvent specifically designed for laminate floors. A soft cloth dipped in the solvent is sufficient for removing grease and oil from the laminate. Allow the area to dry completely before applying the repair product. Unika suggests squeezing the ColorFill onto a plastic spatula and rubbing the spatula across the damaged floor, applying a thin layer of ColorFill. The product will fills in any scratches and gouges. Rubbing a damp cloth over the floor will removes any excess product clinging to the sides of the damaged spot.
Allow the layer to dry for at least 24 hours. Depending on the size of the damage, you might need to apply multiple coats of ColorFill. Apply additional coats as you did the first, always waiting for the previous coat to dry completely before adding another. After the final coat dries, wipe a rag or towel soaked in cleaning product across the flooring. Once the flooring dries, use the laminate as you did before the repair.
ColorFill contains the chemicals acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, isopropyl alcohol and methoxy propyl acetate. The chemicals are flammable and act as an irritant when in contact with skin and eyes. Only use the product in a well-ventilated area, and wear a respirator or mask if you suffer breathing difficulties. If the product touches your skin, wash the affected skin with warm water and contact a doctor if you notice signs of irritation. Irrigate the eyes if the product reaches your eyes. Unika suggests seeking medical attention if you ingest the product or notice any breathing or irritants after using ColorFill.
ColorFill forms a permanent bond with the laminate and requires no additional maintenance after the initial application. The product comes in a squeeze tube and does not need any mixing, in contrast to other epoxies and laminate repair products. Once dry, the product is not susceptible to any type of home cleaning products. As long as the product is safe for use on laminate flooring, it is safe for use on the repaired area.
