How to Lift Up the Corner of Carpet

When circumstances call for you to look underneath your carpet -- such as to assess the quality of the floor underneath or check for staining on the pad -- you lift up the corner of the carpet. Yet, unless the carpet is lying unattached, it's probably held in place with a tack strip that runs the perimeter of the room. To lift the corner of the carpet, you must loosen the carpet from the tack strip. Sometimes molding prevents you from being able to loosen the carpet, so an extra step may be needed.

Insert the edge of a flat pry bar behind the end of the piece of shoe molding.

    • 2

Tap the top of the pry bar with a hammer to wedge the bar behind the molding and loosen it from the wall.
