Homemade Mold Cleaner for Concrete

Concrete is an easy-to-clean surface that can sometimes develop mold. While there are several retail cleaning products that are safe for concrete surfaces, these can be pricey and too expensive for our budgets. Instead, make your own low-cost cleaning solution that will effectively kill mold and mildew, without harming the concrete surface.
  1. Vinegar

    • Vinegar works to clean, disinfect, and deodorize concrete as well as kill mold spores. In a spray bottle, mix a solution of two cups hot water, one cup distilled white vinegar. Spray directly onto the mold, and repeat daily until the mold is gone. Alternately, dip a brush or cloth in the vinegar solution, and scrub away the mold to eliminate it immediately. This also works well as an all-purpose cleaning solution for all concrete surfaces.

    Bleach

    • Bleach also disinfects and cleans mold from concrete surfaces. In a spray bottle, mix a solution of two cups water, one cup chlorinated liquid bleach. Spray directly onto the mold daily until the mold is gone, or scrub away with a brush or cloth.

    Baking Soda

    • Baking soda also works as a cleaning solution for mold cleanup on concrete surfaces. The grainy texture works perfectly with a scrub brush to clean away mold residue. Spray the mildewed area with a light mist of water, then sprinkle with baking soda. Add a splash of white vinegar, and scrub with a brush to break up and kill the mold spores. Repeat as necessary until all mold is gone.

    Ammonia

    • Ammonia also disinfects, cleans, and kills mold spores on concrete. In a spray bottle, mix two cups of water with one cup non-sudsing ammonia. Spray onto mold daily until it has disappeared, or use a brush to scrub the concrete until all mold is gone.
