Removing Urine Odor From a Wood Floor

Urine stains, whether from animals or young children, can be extremely damaging to hardwood floors. In addition to permanently discoloring the boards, these stains emit strong, unpleasant odors too powerful to be removed by simple soap and water. The best way to exterminate urine odor from a wood floor is to use an enzyme-based cleaner. Several brands and types exist, and they are fairly simple to use.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply the enzyme-based cleaner to the stained area by putting some on a rag and spreading it around the floor, starting around the perimeter and working inward.

    • 2

Spread the plastic sheet over the entire treated area.

    • 3

Take the plastic off after 30 minutes and dry the floor by blotting it with paper towels.

    • 4

Treat the area with the cleaner again if the smell persists, using the same procedure in Step 1, but do not use the plastic sheet this time.

    • 5

Mop up the area if the odor is gone. If the odor remains, perform another treatment with the enzyme-based cleaner.
