How to Refinish Boat Wood Teak

Over time, you boat woodworking will begin to age and you will need to know how to refinish boat wood teak in order to refinish the boat woodwork. The wood teak floors in a boat are just like a normal wood floor when it comes to refinishing them, but refinishing the wood floors on a boat must be done more often then in a home, as the water from the lake or ocean speeds up the breakdown of the varnish.

Instructions

      Wipe up any debris or dirt on the boat teak wood floors with a damp rag.

      Use the paint brush to apply a thick coat of varnish/paint remover on the boat teak wood flooring. Allow it sit for the specified time on the container--usually 30 minutes.

      Scrap the wood floor with the paint scraper. Use the wire bristled side of the scraper to remove all the old varnish. Apply more varnish remover as need on any areas on the teak flooring that has a thick coat of varnish on it.

      Dampen a rag with paint thinner. Wipe down the entire teak flooring to remove all the leftover varnish remover gunk. Allow the teak decking to dry for an hour.

      Paint a thin coat of waterproof varnish over the entire teak flooring surface. Allow it to dry for several hours or as specified on the container. Use the fine grit sandpaper to remove any rough spots or runs from the first coat of varnish. Wipe up the dust with a damp rag.

      Apply another thin coat of varnish over the entire teak wood surface. Allow it to dry for 6 hours.
