How to Use a Wet Dry Vacuum

Commercial cleaning use wet/dry vacuums for heavy duty jobs, and manufacturers recently began producing models in compact sizes for consumers. If you aren't familiar with this appliance, you are missing some creative ways for taking care of household chores.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove standing water the vacuum hose. Place the hose in the water and switch on the machine. Set the appliance on a dry area and empty the inside drum as soon as it fills with water.

    • 2

Switch filters according to the task. A foam filter is necessary when vacuuming liquids; use a paper filter to vacuum dirt and debris.

    • 3

Use the exhaust portion of the blower to blast dust and dirt from outdoor areas. One pipe attachment on the vacuum provides suction, and the other blows air out. By switching the hose to the exhaust pipe, you can blow dust bunnies out of car engines.

    • 4

Recover items dropped into garbage disposals. Insert the end of your vacuum hose down the disposal and suck out the contents. Rummage the tank for your dropped item.

    • 5

Clean out wood-burning stoves and fireplaces but make sure the ashes are cold first. Since wood can smolder for a long time without producing smoke or a flame, you must check before your machine sucks up the soot.
