Do I Need a Rug to Protect My Pergo Floors Under My Kitchen Chairs?

Pergo laminate or wood floors are durable, but sliding kitchen chairs across the floor could cause scratches. You can protect your laminate flooring by using a rug under the kitchen table or by using chair feet covers with a soft backing that won't scratch the floor.
  1. Rugs

    • Using a rug under your kitchen table to protect the floor from possible scratches from the chair feet can become bothersome when you are pushing the chair in and out. You need to pick up the chair to move it. The type of rug you use on the Pergo floor cannot have a canvas or jute backing, or it will scratch the floor. You need a throw rug, which is going to bunch up when you're moving the chairs or walking on it.

    Felt Tips

    • Felt floor protectors fit on the bottoms of your chair legs. When sliding the chair across the floor, it won't leave scratches. The felt is soft, so it glides along the floor. Even if the chair has plastic or rubber feet, you need to cover or replace the feet with the felt feet tips so you don't scratch or mar the flooring.

    Sliders

    • Sliders protect Pergo floors from scratches and help the kitchen chairs move more easily across the floor. The sliders come in different sizes for moving heavy furniture, such as couches, or smaller sizes that fit under chair legs. Sliders are larger than the chair foot and will stick out from under the chair leg. However, the sliders do protect the floor from scratches.

    Kitchen Table

    • The kitchen table may not need to be moved, but tables, no matter how heavy they are, will move slightly or a lot when you are getting up from the table or leaning over it to move something. Besides using felt tips or sliders on chair legs, use these protectors on the table legs as well to protect the floor from scratches.
