Inspect all of your home's rain gutters and downspouts. Look for any sections that are clogged. Use a broom handle to clear out any debris that is clogging the pipes. Replace any sections that are leaking or damaged.
Install splash blocks beneath each of your home's downspouts. Splash blocks keep the water from pooling against the foundation of the house once it is drained off of the roof. Use splash blocks that are at least 12 inches in length and are plastic or cement. Angle them away from the house in a direction that allows for the best drainage.
Remove any debris from nearby yard drains. Look for the grated covers that cover the drains. The drains are installed in some yards to help drain rainwater or creek runoff into the sewer system. Clogged drains can result in water pooling in your yard and flooding your crawl space.
Dig a trench drain in any areas that tend to flood your crawl space. Use a trenching shovel to dig a trench that is 2 feet deep and 4 feet away from the house. Dig the trench on a downward grade so it will carry rainwater away from your house. Install plastic piping material in your trench, then cover it with soil when you finished.
Install a sump pump in you crawlspace. Sump pumps will pump out water any time the other methods fail to drain the water away from your home. You can run the sump pump piping straight to the trench drain that you already installed in your yard for drainage.
