How to Seal & Strip Asphaltic Surfaces

If your asphalt driveway is starting to show signs of wear and tear, it may be time to repair it. A driveway that has been in place for many years is likely to have many cracks that need to be repaired. Without a proper seal, the driveway could begin to leak water and erode; leaks and erosion make repairs even more expensive and time-consuming. Taking care of repairs quickly will save you time and money in the future.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear away any weeds, dirt or other debris in the cracks of the surface. Clean the surface with a vacuum or leaf blower to get loose dirt out of the cracks.

    • 2

Mix 1 gallon of bleach with 4 gallons of water, then use the scrub brush to clean the surface with the mixture. You can also use a pressure washer to further clean the surface.

    • 3

Pour the liquid crack filler into any cracks, allowing the filler to fill the entire crack until it is slightly higher than the crack. Work your way slowly along the entire crack. Spread the filler flat with a putty knife, working from one end of the crack to the other.

    • 4

Mix the resurfacer sealant with the mixing stick according to the instructions, then use the paintbrush to apply the sealant to the entire surface. Be careful not to paint the sealant on curbs and other surfaces.
