Pull any vegetation from the crack and spray deep roots with weed killer before leaving overnight. Remove loose pieces of asphalt from the crack. Sweep the asphalt with a broom to remove debris from the area.
Spray down the crack with a garden hose and apply asphalt cleaner to the area around the crack. Scrub the area with a stiff bristle brush and then use the hose to wash the cleaner away. Allow the area to dry completely.
Fill cracks no wider than 1/2-inch using an asphalt filler compound. Use a caulking gun and force the compound into the crack and smooth it out with a trowel or putty knife.
Repair larger cracks by pouring the compound or using a trowel to load the compound into the crack. Smooth it with a trowel. Avoid getting too much of the compound on the asphalt surface. Leave the filler compound to dry according to the package instructions.
Spray the area around the crack lightly with a garden hose. Pour acrylic sealer made for asphalt driveways along the total length of the crack and allow it to spread approximately 6 inches on either side. Smooth the line of sealer using a soft brush and feather it out slightly over the asphalt. Let the asphalt repair dry for 24 hours before walking or driving over it.
