Your home's gutter and downspout system is its best defense against water damage. Moving the water off the roof and discharging well away from the foundation is the best method for assuring a dry basement. This system needs periodic maintenance to remove debris from the gutters and seal up the joints. Inspecting the entire system every year is a good habit that every homeowner should do religiously. If you discover a leaky joint, repairing it is a breeze.
