Wood boring insects can be a major problem; both inside and outside of your home. They can eat up all different types of wood in your house, including desks, bookshelves, bed frames and many different types of cabinets. Outside they can damage the siding on the house and the trees in your yard.

Instructions

  1. Killing Insects Inside the House

    • 1

Locate all of the unfinished wood in the house and apply termite spray, such as Boracare to the infected areas. Boracare works on untreated wood. Pour the spray into a water bottle. Fill it up halfway with the spray and fill the other half with water.

    • 2

Hold the bottle close to the unfinished wood and spray on a thick layer. Move the bottle along the entire surface and cover the whole area with the spray. The Boracare or other termite spray will absorb into the wood to treat the infestation and it will dry clear.

    • 3

Check back on your wood periodically and see if the holes and wood damage has stopped. If not, apply another layer of the termite spray after a few days, just like it was applied the first time.

    Killing Insects Outside the House

    • 4

Inspect the wood on the outside of the house and find the areas where the insects are doing the most damage.

    • 5

Fill a spray bottle up with water and add in exterior termite concentrate. Mix according to the instructions on the box. The instructions will vary depending on the manufacturer.

    • 6

Spray the infected area with the termite concentrate. Apply a heavy layer over the entire area. Check back in a few days and spray more, if there are still wood-boring insects remaining. Continue the same process, until all of the insects are gone.
