How to Secure a Loose Top Cap on Mobile Home Skirting

If the top cap on your mobile home skirting comes loose, it needs to be secured. The top cap is the uppermost section of skirting that provides a clean, finished look. Skirting prevents animals and other unwanted guests from getting underneath the mobile home. If the top cap comes loose, it may create a large enough gap into which critters can crawl. Protect your mobile home and keep it looking nice by securing loose sections of top cap with nails.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the loose section of top cap. Look for any tears or breaks in the skirting. If the skirting is damaged, replace it with a new section. If the top cap is loose but not damaged, you do not need to replace it.

    • 2

Position the top cap back into place. Proper installation requires each piece of skirting to overlap the next. If the skirting is installed in such a manner, position the top cap so it overlaps the section next to it.

    • 3

Position a nail near the end of the loose section of top cap. Hold the nail with one hand, keeping the top cap tightly pressed against the mobile home.

    • 4

Pound the nail into place with a hammer. Do not hit the nail too hard or you may drive it too far into the mobile home and damage the skirting with the hammer.
