How to Remove Sienna Sun Shades

Sienna sun shades are dashboard shades made of reflective material. They block 85 percent of the sun's solar energy and 99.5 percent of UV rays. As a result, your car is significantly cooler -- up to 50 degrees cooler. The shades have a pleated design and are pulled over the dashboard from one side to the other. Once you get back into your Toyota Sienna to drive away, you can quickly open the shade because it retracts automatically, folding away to a 1.5 inch profile. Sienna sun shades attach to your windshield with heat-resistant mounting brackets and 3M foam tape.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the blade of a removal tool such as a razor blade or metal spackle knife underneath one of the shade mounting brackets. Position it between the bracket and windshield.

    • 2

Apply pressure to the handle of the removal tool, pushing it down toward the windshield. The blade end will pop up toward the mounting bracket, separating the bracket from the 3M foam tape. Although the tape has high bond strength, it comes off the bracket with pressure. Set the bracket aside.

    • 3

Put the blade under one end of the 3M tape. Peel the tape off the windshield slowly. Scrape off any remaining residue.

    • 4

Insert the pry tool under the other mounting bracket. Remove it from the 3M tape, then peel the tape off the windshield.
