However, with a spraying technique, you can cut your work time and achieve a uniform and consistent-looking coat of paint with relatively little hassle. Instructions

    • 1

Carefully lay down drop cloths around your deck to cover your plants and protect them throughout the project.

    • 2

Spray the entire deck surface with a garden hose so that the wood is damp.

    • 3

Fill a deck pump sprayer with equal parts water and deck cleaner. Pump the sprayer to prime it and apply the cleaner over the deck.

    • 4

Scrub the cleaner into the deck with a nylon brush to remove debris. Once you have finished scrubbing the deck, rinse it thoroughly with a garden hose. Wait overnight for the deck to dry completely before continuing.

    • 5

Prepare a rented deck spray paint machine as instructed in the user manual. If you do not want to use a rented machines, you can also fill a pump sprayer with paint and prime it as instructed in its user guide.

    • 6

Hold the wand of the sprayer approximately 6 to 8 inches away from the deck's surface and spray the paint in 7-by-7-foot sections. Use a paint roller to even out puddling that might occur with the sprayed paint. Paint will dry fully within 48 hours of application.
