How to Glue to Stucco

Stucco is a wall finish commonly found on both the interior and exterior of homes. Made from cement-like materials, the finish is essentially a plaster made from a mixture of sand and water. After being applied to walls, stucco provides a textured appearance and rough surface. Although stucco is an affordable construction element that can take on a myriad of colors and textures, it can be difficult to adhere items to without using fasteners like screws or nails.

Instructions

    • 1

Sand down the area of stucco where glue will be applied to remove all paint and primer. Gently rough the adhesion area.

    • 2

Wipe the area of stucco that has been sanded using a clean, damp cloth. Remove all of the dust created from sanding, as well as any dirt or grime from the stucco wall. When the wall has been cleaned, dry the area with a clean, dry cloth and allow the area to air dry completely before applying glue.

    • 3

Apply a stripe of urethane-based epoxy adhesive to the perimeter of the item that will be glued to the stucco. Smear additional glue across the back of the item every 6 to 8 inches to ensure maximum adhesion.

    • 4

Line up the glue-lined item with the sanded stucco area. Firmly press the item against the wall and hold it in place until the glue has set enough to hold the item independently. If possible, use a nail, screw or staple to hold the item in place until the glue has hardened completely.
