How to Insulate Aluminum Siding

Aluminum siding naturally absorbs the temperature around it. This leads to higher home energy costs. To avoid this increased cost, insulate your aluminum siding to save you from a drained wallet each month. Nailing 3/8-inch foam insulation to the side of your home before installing the siding both insulates your home and gives you the even surface you need to install the siding.

Things You'll Need

  • Nails to correspond with nail gun
  • 3/8-inch foam insulation, same amount as siding

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the side of your home you will be installing the siding and insulation.

    • 2

Measure pieces of the 3/8-inch foam insulation, and mark them using chalk before cutting them with scissors. Do this so they fit onto the side of your home without overlapping.

    • 3

Load the nail gun with nails. Utilize the help of another person to hold the first piece of insulation on the side of the home. Use a ladder if necessary.

    • 4

Nail the corners of the insulation into the side of the home so that it holds. Place a nail every 6 inches along the edge of the insulation so it is firmly affixed. Continue this until the entire area is covered.

    • 5

Install the aluminum siding on top of the flat, energy-efficient 3/8-inch foam insulation.
