How to Stain Brick to Match

If you have bricks inside or outside your home that have lost their color and faded, you can stain them to restore their original color or stain them darker for a specific look. Brick staining is not difficult and can be done by anyone who has used a paintbrush. Regardless of the color you choose, the stained bricks will look new and match.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the brick stain kit and unpack the carrier solution, the pigment and the fixing agent.

    • 2

Put on rubber gloves and pour water into a bucket as directed by the stain-kit manufacturer. The amount of water will vary by manufacturer, but in general, use 1 to 1 1/2 cups of water.

    • 3

Pour the carrier solution into the bucket, then pour in the pigment. Stir the mixture thoroughly with a paint stirrer.

    • 4

Add the fixing agent and stir the mixture again. Pour in more water to lighten the brick stain, if necessary.

    • 5

Test the brick stain on one brick in an inconspicuous place by brushing it onto the brick with a paintbrush. Let the stain dry on the test spot and add more water to the mixture if still too dark.

    • 6

Apply the brick stain over your bricks with a paintbrush and allow to dry as long as suggested by the manufacturer.

    • 7

Apply a coat of masonry and brick sealer with a clean paintbrush to protect the stain color once the stain has dried.
