How to Mix Brown Coat for Stucco

The brown stucco coat is used to provide architectural detail to stucco facing. The brown stucco coat is mixed after the scratch coat is applied to the exterior of the home or building. Generally, more sand is added to the brown coat than is added to the scratch coat, which gives it its browner appearance. This coat is applied on top of the scratch coat, and the excess is screed, or cleaned off the surface with a straight edge.
