How to Fix a Stucco Patch

Stucco is an inexpensive and easily installed way to add textured surfaces to a home. The material protects the internal structure frame from the elements and helps make the house more fire-resistant on the outside. However, stucco can dry out and crack over time, causing small sections to fall off the chicken wire layer underneath. When this happens, patch the hole so the damage doesn't spread further.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the old, cracked stucco out with a hand brush. Remove any small, loose parts that could interfere with adhesion of the patch. Brush any remaining dust and bits out of the area.

    • 2

Scoop out a sizable amount of stucco patch mix from the product container, using a paint scraper. Press the material into place on the wall using the scraper. Wipe off any excess and put it back in the product bucket. Cover the entire stucco hole with patch mix, working it over to the remaining good stucco.

Wait a day for the stucco patch to cure and harden. Examine the patch after it has dried and apply additional patch material if necessary. Again, let the material harden and cure for a day if more was added.

Paint over the patch a week later to match the color of the patch to the remainder of the stucco wall.
