Lay a painters tarp or newspaper to protect the ground in the area where you are going to paint.
Wipe the steel rods down to make sure there is no dirt or grease on them. Use sandpaper or a wire brush to remove any flaking rust.
Buy rubberized paint at your local hardware store. If you only have a few, short rods to paint, buy it in an aerosol spray can. If you have many to paint, buy the paint in buckets. Spray the rods evenly, one at a time or paint them with the brush. Make sure the entire rod is covered. Let the paint drive for 12 hours.
Apply a second coat. Keep applying coats until the desired thickness is reached.
