Instructions

    • 1

Purchase textured paint and white primer from your local hardware or paint store. Match the color of the paint to the colors in the room with the bad drywall job. If you aren't sure what color to get, bring a picture of the room to the store and ask an employee to help you.

Prepare the room for painting. Remove all paintings and fixtures from the walls, including plastic outlet covers. Move furniture away from the walls and cover it with a drop cloth to protect it from spills. Protect fixtures by covering them with painters' tape.

    • 3

Prime the drywall. Use a paint roller or paint brush to cover the drywall with white primer. Apply at least two coats of primer. The drywall should look white and the original color should not come through when you are finished.

    • 4

Wait 24 hours before continuing so that the primer can dry. Wash your roller or paint brush in soap and water while the primer is drying.

    • 5

Paint the wall. Paint a stripe of textured paint on the top of the wall using a paint brush. Clean the paintbrush in soap and water and use a roller to paint the rest of the wall. Go in one direction and make your strokes as even as possible to give the wall a textured feel. Clean the roller with soap and water when you are done.

Wait 24 hours for the paint to dry. If the drywall doesn't look as good as you'd like, apply a second coat of textured paint.

Put furniture back and rehang pictures once the paint has dried.
