How to Form a Standing Metal Roll Seam

Standing metal roll seam roofing is one of the most durable and inexpensive roofing options available. At a fraction of the cost of traditional shingle or tile roofs, metal seam roofing resists weathering, denting and rust. A metal seam roof is installed by interlocking single sheets of sheeting in a grid pattern, forming a tight lattice which is highly resistant to rain and wind.

Instructions

    • 1

Align the first metal seam shingle in the lower left-hand corner of the roof.

    • 2

Secure the shingle in place by nailing roofing nails through the metal tabs at each corner of the shingle using a roofer's hammer.

    • 3

Slide the second shingle into place above the first. Press the lip at the base of the second shingle beneath the lip at the top of the first shingle.

    • 4

Secure the second shingle in place.

    • 5

Install the third shingle to the right of the corner shingle. Press the lip on the left-hand side of the third shingle beneath the lip on the right-hand side of the corner shingle. Secure the shingle into place with roofing nails.

Install additional shingles, working up and to the right, until the roof is covered. Follow the pattern set by the first three, sliding each new shingle beneath the lip created by the shingle to the left and below.
