How to Repair Sunlight Awnings

Sunlight awnings are retractable coverings typically made of fabric treated with a UV inhibitor and water sealant. These awnings can be found on homes, recreational vehicles and pool houses. Though sunlight awnings are designed to last many years, weather elements can create tears in the fabric. Torn seams can be repaired easily with a needle and canvas thread but tears elsewhere must be repaired differently.

Instructions

    • 1

Lower the awning and clean on and around the tear in the fabric with liquid dish soap using a bucket and a sponge. Once clean, allow the fabric to dry in the sun.

    • 2

Pull the tear together and stretch clear RV awning repair tape over the torn portion on both sides of the awning. Press down firmly with your palms, working out any wrinkles and removing any air pockets.

    • 3

Treat the entire top side of the awning with awning waterproofing spray, following the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 4

Retract the awning and open it several times once the awning waterproofing spray has completely dried to ensure the clear RV awning repair tape remains in place.
