How to Get Rid of Water in Basement Window Wells

Water accumulated in a window well often becomes water seeping into the basement. Removing water accumulation from the window well requires a small utility pump to excavate the water from the enclosure. Ridding the window well of the water problem requires landscaping steps that allow the water to flow away from the window well without causing problems.

      Remove the water in the window well using a small utility pump or a wet/dry shop vac. Utility pumps are similar to sump pumps but are manually operated and do not have a float. Insert the hose into the standing water in the window well and suck up the moisture.

      Cover the window well with a plastic dome.

      Fill the soil below the window well with pea rock to the level of the drain tile below the foundation footings.

      Slope the soil in the bottom of the window well away from the home.
