How to Remove Scratches on Trex Decking

Trex, a brand name for a composite decking material, contains recycled wood and plastic. Generally easy to clean and maintain, Trex decking can suffer scratches and surface damage from normal wear and tear. According to the manufacturer, natural weathering eventually eliminates most scratches, but you can hasten the process if you want.

  • Garden hose
  • Soft-bristled brush
  • Protective gear
  • Oxalic or phosphoric acid-containing cleanser

      Spray the affected area with your garden hose to remove any dirt or debris from inside the scratches. Use a soft-bristled brush to remove dirt from deep scratches.

      Put on protective gear such as goggles and work gloves before you mix the oxalic or phosphoric acid-containing cleanser. Mix the cleanser according to the package instructions.

      Apply the cleanser to the Trex deck, concentrating on the scratched area. Agitate the solution with a soft-bristled brush and allow the solution to work for a few minutes.
