How to Fix a Pothole in a Dirt Driveway

When the roads are full of potholes, you can scream at your local street crews; but when potholes are in your dirt driveway, the only one you can blame is yourself. It should be a priority to fix potholes in your driveway because they can cause damage to the suspension on your vehicle. In addition, someone could trip in a pothole, causing injuries and a potential homeowner's insurance claim.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the pothole for any debris or leaves that may have fallen into it. Remove as much of this material as you can from the hole.

    • 2

Dig the hole a little deeper with your shovel. Pat the excess dirt onto the walls of the pothole.

    • 3

Fill the hole with dirt so that the soil sits 3 or 4 inches above the surface of the driveway.

    • 4

Spray the area with water from your garden hose and compress it with a hand tamper. Rake the area until it is flush with the rest of the driveway.
