How to Recover Driveways

Asphalt driveways require periodic recovering to keep them looking their best and to guard against the elements. Whereas removing a driveway is best accomplished during a cool day, warm sunny days are optimal for recovering them. The process of recovering a driveway is a fairly straightforward one but may take a considerable amount of time depending on the size of the driveway.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the driveway with an asphalt cleaner product and a scrub brush to remove any oil and dirt from the surface. Follow the cleaner manufacturer’s directions closely and wear rubber gloves.

    • 2

Spray down the entire driveway with a garden hose or pressure washer and allow the driveway to dry.

    • 3

Pour asphalt sealer onto one corner of the driveway.

    • 4

Spread the sealer across the driveway in a thin layer with a push broom or squeegee until the entire surface of the driveway is covered. It is important to avoid leaving thick pools of the sealer on the driveway as the sealer will not dry properly. Allow the period of time specified by the sealer manufacturer to expire for the sealer to cure. Do not walk across the driveway until the sealer has cured.
