How to Fix a Slippery Garage

Power wash the floor. The entire surface of the garage floor will need to be free from dirt, grease and other materials. Use a power washer and thoroughly clean the floor. Let it dry completely before proceeding.

Lay down vinyl garage floor tiles. These tiles are made of a vinyl material but they feel almost squishy to the touch. They feature ends that lock together. Lay down the first tile in the center of the floor and then complete the first row. Continue until the entire floor is covered, or just your work area, whichever you prefer.

Lay down large mats. If you don't like the look of smaller tile, or you have a lot of space to cover, large, vinyl mats will work best. Place these mats with the edges interlocking on the floor. Once again, start in the middle and work outwards.

Cover the floor in an anti-slip epoxy paint. If you are protecting more than just a work area, or you want a uniform covering for your flooring, epoxy paint that is slip resistant is ideal. Use a floor paint applicator. Start in the far corner of the garage and work outwards, leaving yourself an egress.

Lay down safety walk tape. This is a roll of tape that can be applied to floors in small areas. This application works well if you are protecting a small amount of flooring or just creating safe walkways. Remove the adhesive backing and press the tape into place. Use a yardstick to help you keep a straight line as you lay the tape down.
