How to Make Holes in Walls for Mailboxes

You have the option of how you want to receive mail, magazines, newspapers and packages to your home. On rural routes, a mailbox mounts on a pole by the road. In the suburbs, it's more common to have a mailbox adhered to the wall or siding of your home. When you replace the mailbox with a different model or size, you need to use the proper tools and technique to prevent the mailbox from falling later on.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the mailbox up against the wall where you want it anchored. Mark the wall to indicate where the mailbox's mounting holes are located.

    • 2

Drill deck screws into the mounting holes for the mailbox for basic wood. Attach a masonry bit if you need to drill into brick.

    • 3

Remove the screws to leave the holes for mounting the mailbox.

    • 4

Place the mailbox with the holes lined up and drill the screws into the holes you just created. Screw in each one tightly for maximum stability.
