Remove about 6 inches of dirt from the exterior edge of the stucco siding. Wash the stucco surface by spraying it with a pressure washer. Inspect all areas of the stucco to make sure the surface is secure and not cracking or falling apart.
Spread about 1/2 inch of mortar over the bottom edge of the footing. Press strips of metal flashing into the mortar along the bottom edge of the footing and screw them in place to prevent water getting under the brick layer. Extend footings less than 6 inches by pouring a new footing next to the existing one or bolting a corrosion-resistant steel angle onto the footing to extend it.
Cover the stucco siding with tar paper.
Spread mortar along the top edge of the flashing and begin installing brick veneer by pressing them into the mortar to hold it in place. Smooth the mortar between the bricks with your fingers as you continue to lay brick veneer along the installation area. Check the top edge with a level to make sure the installation remains straight as you move along the surface. Stagger each row of brick so the short edges do not line up vertically.
Nail metal wall ties into the wall every 32 inches horizontally and about 16 inches vertically along the installation area to help support the brick veneer.
Cut 1/4-inch diameter rubber tube to a length of about 2 inches and install them into the brick mortar about every 2 feet along the center of the installation area to provide drainage for water that gets between the brick and siding. Pull out the rubber tubes once the mortar dries completely, after about seven days.
