How to Change the Handlebar on a Eureka Lawn Mower

Unlike many other lawnmower brands, Eureka lawnmowers have a fairly large control panel attached to the handlebar. The exact controls included in the control panel vary based on the model, but the actual construction and attachment of the panel are similar for each model. At first, removing and replacing the control panel from the handlebar may look like a fairly difficult task but it is actually very easy to do. However, since the handlebar needs screw holes for the control panel, which is not a standard feature in most lawnmowers, you will require the replacement handlebar for your specific Eureka lawnmower.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the four screws in the front of the control panel to disconnect it from the handlebar. Do not attempt to pull it off yet. The starter still is attached to the handlebar underneath the control panel.

    • 2

Remove the screw holding the starter to the handlebar. Set the control panel down gently . Make sure the cord from the starter is not tangled inside the handlebar.

    • 3

Turn the knobs on the bottom of the handlebar counterclockwise until they come off. Press the end of the bolt that was connected to the knob to remove it from the handlebar. The handlebar is only the top half of the handle. You should be turning the knobs halfway up the handle, not those located at the bottom. Leave the bottom half of the handle alone if you only want to replace the handlebar.

    • 4

Insert the two bolts through the holes on the inside of the handle. The threaded end of the bolt should be poking through the outside of the handle. The holes in the handle are square rather than circle. The bolt also is square shaped. Make sure the square bolt and hole are pushed together fully. You do not need a wrench to tighten these bolts because the hole keeps the bolt from spinning when it is tightened.

    • 5

Place a washer on both bolts.

    • 6

Turn the knobs on the new handlebar clockwise to tighten them on both bolts. The handlebar should be held firmly in place by both sets of bolts and knobs.

    • 7

Place the control panel on top of the new handlebar. Line up the holes on the front of the control panel with the holes in the handlebar.

    • 8

Tighten all four screws to attach the control panel to the handlebar. Tighten the screw to the starter, underneath the panel, to hold the starter firmly in place.
