How to Attach a Beam Clamp

Beams are typically used to compose or reinforce a structure, and a beam clamp enables you to tap into the strength of the support beam to use for other applications. For example, beam clamps can be attached to beams to provide a hoist or secure suspension point; alternatively, use beam clamps to suspend temporary lighting or to hoist a bucket of paint into the rafters of your home or business. Take some time to learn how to safely attach a beam clamp to a beam at your work area.

Instructions

    • 1

Raise the beam clamp's support screw so that the distance between the bottom of the screw and the beam's bottom jaw exceeds the height of the beam to which you'd like to attach the clamp. Turn the screw counter-clockwise to raise it.

    • 2

Place the mouth of the beam clamp over the area of the beam where you will attach the clamp. Push the inside of the beam clamp's bottom jaw up the bottom of the beam and hold the clamp in place.

    • 3

Tighten the support screw so that it secures the clamp to the beam. Turn the screw clockwise to tighten the beam clamp securely to the beam.
