How to Install Dewitt Foundation Roofing Primer Coating

Since weather exposure eventually causes exterior foundation walls and flat roofs to experience cracks and damages, sealing is necessary. Coating walls and flat roofs with DeWitt’s Foundation and Roofing Coating provides a moisture barrier to help prevent leaks and damage to home interiors. DeWitt’s Foundation and Roofing Coating essentially is a paint-like mixture of petroleum solvents and oxidized asphalt, which fill and seal small pores, cracks and pinholes in exterior surfaces. Like all types of roof coatings, DeWitt’s Foundation and Roof Coating requires proper application to ensure foundation walls and flat roofs are sealed and protected adequately.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrub dirt and grime off the foundation wall or flat roof using a wire brush. Clean thoroughly the surface you’re about to coat with DeWitt’s Foundation and Roof Coating.

    • 2

Put on long clothing, rubber work gloves and safety glasses. Wear the safety gear throughout the entire procedure.

    • 3

Repair any visible cracks in the foundation wall or flat roof with wet-stick roof cement before applying the foundation and roof coating. Spread the cement smoothly 3/8-inch thick over the cracked area using a trowel. Feather the edges of the cement gradually onto the surrounding wall or roof surface.

    • 4

Allow the wet-stick roof cement to cure for 72 hours.

    • 5

Ensure the roof or foundation wall is dry completely before applying DeWitt’s foundation and roof coating. Once dry, mix the coating with a paint stir stick, and then pour the coating into a clean paint tray.

    • 6

Brush the coating onto the roof or wall using a roller brush. Cut in around roof penetrations, such as chimneys, with a paintbrush. Apply the coating evenly 1/8 inch thick to the entire wall or roof, using 3 gallons of coating per 100 square feet on masonry walls and 2 gallons of coating per 100 square feet on flat roofs. If coating a foundation wall, work from the top downward. Allow the coating to cure on the wall or roof for 48 hours.

    • 7

Apply the second coat of DeWitt’s foundation and roof coating to the wall or roof using the previous techniques. Let the second coat cure for 48 hours.
