Drain the well casing as necessary via your home well user's manual. Unscrew and pry open the casing lid, respectively, with a screwdriver and a crowbar.
Power on a 20- to 80-kHz ultrasonic contact transducer. Touch the head plate of the transducer atop the casing surface. Move the head plate over the surface of the casing in a back-and-forth motion at a low and controlled speed. Contact transducers are designed for removing grime from flat areas and move naturally over top flat surfaces. Purchase a contact transducer though your local well or sonic cleaning supply company.
Reduce the frequency to between 20 and 40 kHz to send low-frequency waves to brake up large pieces of hardened grime. Increase the frequency to 41 kHz or higher to send high-frequency waves to brake up smaller piece of hardened grime. Turn off the transducer.
Scrub the casing and lid clean with a steel fiber brush.
