How to Remove Pavers From a Front Entry Porch

Pulling up pavers is simple, if you don't care whether they come out intact. However, if you are looking to keep your pavers and use them somewhere else, you need to take care when removing them. If your pavers are secured with concrete, you may not be able to keep them intact while removing them.

Instructions

  1. Coat Hanger

    • 1

Cut a wire clothes hanger into two 8-inch-long sections using a pair of wire cutters. If you don't have a wire clothes hanger, go to the hardware store and purchase a piece of wire in a similar gauge.

    • 2

Bend a 1-to-2-inch long finger, using a pair of pliers, onto the ends of each piece of clothes hanger and bend a handle about 3 inches long on the other end of each piece.

    • 3

Slip the finger ends between the pavers on the front entry porch and turn them so they are underneath.

    • 4

Pull up on the paver firmly but gently until you can grasp it.

    Pry Bar

    • 5

Place the edge of a pry bar underneath the edge of the first stone on the porch.

    • 6

Push down firmly on the pry bar, lifting the paver.

    • 7

Hold the pry bar down with one hand -- or your foot -- while you lift the paver up and out.
