How to Install a 120V 35W

A 120 volt 35 watt device requires three wire connections to provide power. Making these connections is simple once you understand where they go and what each does. In residential electrical, the black or hot wire delivers the power to the device. The white wire provides the path back to the source to complete the circuit, and the green or bare wire is the back up safety system. When making these connections make sure the power is turned off at the source before beginning any work.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the power off for the circuit you are working on at the home's distribution panel. Confirm the power is off by touching a non-contact voltage detector to the wire's insulation.

    • 2

Strip 3/8 inches of insulation off the black, white and green wires coming from the distribution panel.

    • 3

Twist together the black source wire with the hot device wire with pliers. Install a twist-on wire connector on top.

    • 4

Twist together the white source wire with the neutral device wire with pliers. Install a twist-on wire connector on top.

    • 5

Twist together the green source wire with the device's ground wire with pliers. Install a twist on wire connector on top. If the device doesn't have a ground connection; loosen the grounding screw in the back of the electrical box, wrap the green wire around it, and tighten it down.
