The Fluke company makes many different items that you can use to make electrical repairs or design electrical circuits. The Fluke 1653 multifunction electrical tester is a portable device that you can use to quickly test your circuits to figure out if they are working as they should be. If there is already a battery installed in the Fluke 1653, test it before you remove it. To do this, turn the switch to the "V" position on the front of the meter, and then press the "F3" button to start the test. You will see the battery voltage appear on the screen for two seconds. If the voltage is less than six volts, it needs to be replaced.

If the tester is on, press the "Power" button to turn it off. Pull the test lead wires out of the input jacks on the front of the meter and set them aside. Having these leads connected when you install a new battery may cause them to become damaged from an electrical surge.
