A microwave oven requires more electrical power than most plug-in electrical appliances. However, a microwave oven can prove invaluable in a small living space, such as a recreational vehicle or travel trailer. Most vehicles of this sort are wired to a lead-acid 12-volt battery. This battery provides DC power, while the microwave runs on 110 volts of AC power. To operate a microwave from a 12-volt DC power source requires a heavy-duty power inverter.
