How to Install a Square D Q0 Q0220 Breaker

Your home's electrical panel distributes power to individual branch circuits. It does this via a circuit breaker that is installed to the two main bus bars. The breaker is the brains of the electrical system that protects the wires from damage from too much electrical current. The square D Q0220 is manufactured by Schneider Electric Company. It is a bolt-on style breaker that is fastened via a screw to the outside bus bar.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power to the electrical panel by opening the main breaker. Confirm the power is off by touching a non-contact voltage detector to several of the wire's insulation. Also check that no appliances or lights in the home have power.

    • 2

Remove the screws that secure the cover on the electrical panel. Set the cover aside.

    • 3

Open the Q0220 breaker so it is in the "Off" position.

    • 4

Insert the breaker into the center of the panel at a slight angle. Once in place, push down on the outside of the breaker.

    • 5

Fasten to the outside bus rail by tightening the screw with a screwdriver.

    • 6

Insert the black wire into the terminal on the breaker. Tighten the terminal down with a screwdriver.

    • 7

Install the cover back on the electrical panel then turn on the power at the main breaker.
