How to Lace Cable in a Cable Tray

Cable trays are widely used in commercial and some residential installations to suspend bulk wiring over and through a structure. Lacing these wires into such trays supports the wires, eliminating most cases of stress-induced failure. Trays also help ensure maximum bandwidth for data cables that need to maintain proper geometry, such as Ethernet and HDMI cables, in order to function at optimal capacity.

     Bundle the cables snugly using the cable ties. Do not wrap the cables so tight as to deform their outer jackets.

     Lay the cables into the tray, ensuring that there are no kinked spots or right-angle bends.

     Secure the cables with a zip tie wrapped around the bundle as well as one of the tines along the tray. Do this every 12 inches or as needed to eliminate sags and dips in the cabling.
