How to Wire a 220-Volt, 110-Amp Plug

When wiring a 220-volt plug, it is important to understand what each wire does. The red and black hot wires deliver the power to the device. The white neutral wire provides the necessary path back to the source and the green or bare wire provides the ground. The ground connection is the backup safety system that gives electricity a path back to the earth if it gets somewhere it shouldn't. Wiring a 220-volt plug is simple once you understand where each wire goes.
