How to Install a LCD & Shelf on the Wall With No Wires Showing

Flat panel LCD televisions hang on walls with specialized hanging brackets. However, the brackets do not hide the wiring. If you do not take steps to hide the wiring, you would have several wires snaking straight down the walls to the shelves where you have your media players and converters. Fortunately, you can easily remedy this situation with a bit of handiwork.

    • 1

Position the LCD mounting bracket in a level position where you plan to install it. Mark the mounting holes onto the wall and then place the bracket off to the side.

    • 2

Drill holes large enough for butterfly toggle bolts. The size of the drill bit is listed on the side of the butterfly toggle.

    • 3

Secure the mounting bracket to the wall with the butterfly toggle bolts and a screwdriver.

    • 4

Cut a hole in the drywall right next to the mounting bracket or through the mounting bracket with a 2-inch hole saw.

Toggle bolts will ensure extra security from the shelf pulling out of the wall if you plan to put multiple pieces of equipment on the shelf. Place the shelf onto the mounting bracket and secure it with the setscrews on the sides of the shelf.

Place a rocker cover plate directly above shelf on the wall and center it from left to right. Place the cover sideways so you won't see it with the equipment installed. Trace the hole in the center of the rocker cover onto the wall and mark the mounting hole locations onto the wall. Cut out the large tracing on the wall with a keyhole saw and then drill holes for wall anchors where you placed marks for the rocker switch mounting locations. Drive in the wall anchors and then secure the rocker switch cover to the anchors.

Place the rocker cover plate directly above the outlet where you will make all of the electrical connections. Position the cover plate vertically so it matches the direction of the electrical cover plate. Trace the hole in the center of the rocker cover onto the wall and mark the mounting hole locations onto the wall. Cut out the large tracing on the wall with a keyhole saw and then drill holes for wall anchors where you placed marks for the rocker switch mounting locations. Connect the cables to the back of the television. Feed the cables and the electrical cord into the hole you drilled by the LCD mounting bracket and then secure the television to the wall with the supplied fasteners.
