How to Adjust a Hidden Motion Sensor in Outdoor Lighting

Motion sensor lights can be installed as a measure of security for the home. The sensors pick up stray movement. When the sensor is activated, the lights turn on. If the light sensor is too sensitive the slightest movement from small windows or debris flying through the driveway can cause the light to turn on. If the sensor is not sensitive enough, nothing will turn it on. Adjust the sensor when the light is installed or whenever you notice slight changes are required.

Instructions

    • 1

Swivel the sensor head in the direction you wish to cover.

    • 2

Set the range switch on the bottom of the sensor to "Max" to cover the entire area in front of the sensor.

    • 3

Set the time delay to the lowest setting using a flat head screwdriver.

    • 4

Set the control for light of day to the daylight setting.

    • 5

Walk in front of the sensor in different areas to test the light's sensitivity.

    • 6

Adjust the time delay and the sensitivity in small increments, walking by the sensor each time to turn the light on. Turn the range control towards minimum to shorten the range of the sensor. Adjust the time delay to alter how long it takes the light to turn on when it detects movement.
